Hands-on Composite course (Optional)
Course Description:
Placement of posterior composite restorations is undoubtedly among the most technique sensitive procedures faced by the dental team daily. This course will discuss the components of a successful direct restoration from proper isolation techniques to current polishing methods. Both chairside and expanded functions assistants will benefit from descriptions of basic adhesion, various matrix systems and steps of composite placement, finishing and polishing.
Placement of sectional matrices and wedges will be demonstrated in the hands on portion followed by each step of the restorative process. Clinical tips and brand suggestions will be included.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the dental team member will be able to:
- Define adhesion and compare/contrast 8 generations of dental adhesives.
- Explain basic functions of etch, primer and bonding agent and demonstrate each.
- Review criteria for properly placed matrix band and wedge and review matrix systems.
- Discuss choices of materials and suggested technique for placing, finishing and polishing Class I-V composites.
- Demonstrate sectional matrix/wedge placement and subsequent composite placement, finishing and polishing steps.
- Introduce advances in treatment of dentin sensitivity.
